Bay Waverley Castle Hotel in Melrose

How long have you worked at Bay Hotels?
I have been working for Bay Hotels for the past 10 months, July 2012 till present.

What other hotels have you worked at?
I started at Bay Eden Arms Hotel in County Durham as a Trainee Manager during that time I was asked to relief manage the Bay Norbreck Hotel twice and I am now currently at the Bay Waverley Castle Hotel in Melrose as a General Manager.

How did you start working for us?
I can’t remember the exact month, but it was the back end of 2009, September I think. Bay Hotels had taken over at Eden Arms hotel in County Durham, at the time it was currently under career management where I was the Food & Beverage Manager overseeing a busy function trade. Bay Hotels never have a title for this and offered me a Trainee Manager position, which I took and never looked back.

What do you like most about the hotel you now run?

It’s my first hotel and breath-taking views of the surrounding areas.

What is your favourite thing about your job?
Talking to customers about their lives. Also the Health and Safety side of things which to most sounds boring but I just for some reason really like it.

Tell us something about the hotel or surrounding area that we may not know?
Bay Waverley Castle Hotel was the first building in Britain to be made from concrete. There are some markings on the foundation wall saying “3 German Bombers spotted 5th August 1939” this is one of several dated quotes on the supporting walls of the building.

What do you enjoy doing when not working?

  • Walking my 2 border collies in and around Melrose
  • Both playing and watching football
  • Trying Real Ales from across all parts of the Country
  • Socialising with family and friends

  • Dear Sir
Unless the Waverly Castle Hotel has had a complete refurbishment since we last visited in 27 July 2010 I would not come back.Check booking ref P67978/02/N

  • We stayed at your Hotel 17 June -21 June we really enjoyed are stay. The food was excellent. The only complaint we had was the price and quality of the beer, I have seen this in a lot of pubs in Sheffield people cant afford the prices and they close.

  • Hi Best of luck with your new appointment. My husband & I will be staying at the Waverley Castle hotel in August (9th to 12th) this year for the 4th year running. Hopefully it will be as good a stay as other years. The hotel is in need of a little TLC in parts but the staff are usually friendly & the food good with plenty of choices. Looking forward to it. Mrs L Bower
